THE RYAN THEATRE
Harrow-on-the-Hill

Wednesday 30th May 2007

IN AID OF BRENDONCARE

Artistic Director: Irmgard Elisabeth Berry
Musical Director: Jeremy Silver
Design Consultant: Sonja Klaus

Opera del Mar is delighted to present a new production of The Magic Flute. Mozart wrote his last opera for the people’s theatre rather than the imperial court and its enduring popularity is due to his genius in combining an immediately accessible story with some of the most sublime music ever written. The plot has all the elements of a fairy tale: a handsome prince is sent by a distraught mother to rescue her daughter, a beautiful princess, from her evil kidnappers but all is not as it seems. The opera is a powerful testament to the virtues of enlightenment but is punctuated by the comic musings of the birdcatcher Papageno who reluctantly assists the Prince but whose only real quest is to find a Papagena!

As always, Opera del Mar has assembled an exciting cast to bring these fantastic characters to life. The performance will be accompanied by our highly acclaimed orchestra under the baton of our Principal Conductor, Jeremy Silver. With sets and costumes inspired by the films of Bollywood, we hope this production will provide the perfect Christmas treat for the whole family.

THE RYAN THEATRE

Harrow-on-the-Hill
This hidden gem was built in 1994 against the south wall of the school’s Old Gymnasium. It provides state-of-the-art facilities whilst retaining the intimate charm of a traditional theatre with proscenium arch and sunken orchestra pit. The 400-seat auditorium is wide and shallow so that all the tiered seats in both the stalls and gallery provide excellent views of the stage, not to mention plenty of leg room! Built on the highest point in the Greater London area, patrons ascending to their seats in the gallery will be greeted with spectacular views of the city at night. Interval drinks will be served in the theatre’s Foyer and Saloon on the ground floor. Disabled facilities are available.

The theatre is easily accessible from the A312 with plenty of parking on West Street as well as a designated car park on Garlands Lane. Harrow-on-the-Hill is served by the Metropolitan Line and taxis are readily available outside the station for the five-minute journey to the theatre. Full details of transportation and parking facilities will be included with your tickets.
